H-1B Cap for FY 2011 to Open Today

leave a comment »

Today, April 1st 2010,  U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) will begin to accept H-1B visa petitions for an October 1, 2010 start date and we are glad to have got all our application completed and sent in a timely fashion.

New H-1B visas are limited to 65,000 each calendar year and 6,800 of this quota is set aside for citizens of Chile and Singapore under Free Trade agreements with these countries. In addition, 20,000 of the new H-1B visas will be available to those who hold masters or other graduate degree from U.S. institutions. The question whether the H-1B cap FY 2011 will be hit on the first day or within the next couple of days, as in years past, remains to be seen.

Cases will be considered accepted on the date that it takes possession of a properly filed petition with the correct fee; not the date that the petition is postmarked.
